Productivity

My bf asked me:  How was your day?

"Not so productive", I answered.

The conversation that ensued:   Why does your day need to be "productive"?   You're past that.    Read a book.   Take a nap mid-day.  Take a long walk.   In short, find something you enjoy and relax.  I'm really not "past" that -- I should have always been thinking this way.

He's right.  I don't need to be productive every day.  I can relax and de-stress.  Focus on enjoying life.

I want to get an interim or temporary job in a few months.  Just to fill my time and supplement my income.  My plan is to take the summer off and look for an interim job that would start October.

Ideally I would spend January through March traveling.  I'd have some shorter trips during other periods.

Really thinking hard about China.   A good comment got me thinking -- "If not now, when?"   I went to China in 2017 with my then bf.   It was an adventure, and fascinating.  Traveling with a native will be easy, and it's a place where we can travel well inexpensively.   One thing I really like to do is "travel well" inexpensively.   That means nice hotels, good food, see the sights and not feel like I'm spending too much.

Thinking about experiences, I really enjoyed the New York trip.  We did one Broadway show, but ideally I would do two.  We explored some new neighborhoods I had not seen before.  We tried some of the more highly rated restaurants, not really expensive ones, but highly rated and different.  One challenge for NY is finding a good hotel.  Soon I will be out of hotel points and have to pay cash.   I guess I could pay $400 per night, but are there any other options?  A friend just stayed at a pod hotel near Times Square.   I prefer not to do that, and it was still over $200.  I could if I have to.

One thousand weeks.  That's about the length of the average person's retirement.   Not sure I believe this.  Maybe if they retire at 60.

  1. Relaxing and unwinding is a great thing to do, but one can only do that for so long before one gets bored. At least that is the way I am. I like to be a little busy so that I can have something to show for my time. However, too much work and no play is not good for anyone.

A part time job sounds nice and if you can get it and have the schedule/terms that you want, all the better. We only get one life and it's way too short regardless of how long you live. We never know when our expiration date is going to hit.

I'm not a travel expert but there are apps like Trivago [I see their commercials the most which is why I suggest it] that can help reduce cost, not sure by a whole lot but some of those apps offer their own points that you can accumulate and use for future travel. While I understand NY being expensive I can't imagine paying $200 to $400 for a hotel that just sounds a bit much to me. Take care!
