I just finished three weeks of intermittent fasting. I ate only during the eight hour window of 11am to 7pm. Interesting experience:
- Daily calories were 1500-1600. Carefully tracked on MyFitnessPal.
- Between running, spin bike, and lifting, I was getting at least 400 calories of exercise per my Apple Watch.
- Only one cheat -- coffee with half & half when I woke up.
- I planned to skew more keto, but that really didn't happen.
- At 10am near the end of my fast I felt very thin. Flat belly at that point.
- There really wasn't a time when I felt like I was starving or uncomfortably hungry.
The result? I lost 1.3 kg (about 3lb) over three weeks. Honestly I feel disappointed as I thought it would be on the upper end of what's possible, more like 1.5 lb per week.
What's next? After Thanksgiving week, there is a three week period before Christmas. I will repeat intermittent fasting but change the eating window to 8am to 4pm. Skipping breakfast might not be a good idea, and not eating in the evening is supposed to be more effective. This time I will for sure go low carbohydrate. Not keto (20-30 grams of carbs a day), but at least below 70 grams per day. As an added benefit, this means my protein intake will go up. I'm planning my diet now.
Thanks to Zach for suggesting I try IF.
Going forward I'm going to focus on some measures other than weight. Skin fold caliper and picture comparison. I still think I need to drop another 4-5 kg, but I want to obsess less on the weight number.
It's good to have something to focus on and work towards.

It is amazing that IF is working well for you and you manage to lose 1.3kg over 3 weeks. Given your age and metabolic factors, it make sense your fat loss journey is relatively slow, but it seems working well toward your goal!
ReplyDeleteWhatever planning you have, I hope it works out for you. Remember, your weight number doesn't not project on what you see in the mirror.
Thanks for your encouragement Zach!
