Too Good to Be True

A new guy in Grindr.  He was 450 feet from me.  Asian,  5'10, 160.  His only comment: "Into mature guys."

Of course I sent a hello.  He responded back.  New to Canada that week.  Starting at the local university in a few days.  He had an apartment with roommate nearby.  Looking to meet new friends.

"Where are you from?" I asked.

"Chongqing," he responded.

Now I become suspicious.  Hmmm....This guy seems almost too good to be true.  Chongqing is a joke between my ex-bf and I (it's one of the largest cities in western China).  He had some things going on with his roommate and couldn't meet that night.  I was leaving town for a few days.

The next day my ex calls me.  "I did something bad", he said.  He's upset.

I said just one word:  "Chongqing"

Apparently there is a way to spoof Grindr and change the gps coordinates.  He figured this out.  He knew exactly what I'd respond to.

I told him, we've already discussed this.  You are in a PhD program that is 1500 miles away for the next five years.  We agreed a long distance relationship wouldn't work.  There's a big age difference.  There might be someone out there for you.

Andy is a really nice guy.  Naive, but a nice guy.  I really care for him.  I want only the best for him.  The relationship was great for me but I'm not sure it's the best for him.  My friends have said it's his choice what he wants to do.

Some people might be angry about this.  I'm not.
