One thing I realize from my fitness efforts is that I am physically weaker than I should be. What is a reasonable weight for a bicep curl or chest press? I attribute this to years working long hours in an office job. There's another blogger called Corporate Slave -- that's what I was, a corporate slave. I wish I was more cognizant of it at the time, and not just getting hit with the realization now. How can you get motivated to exercise and stay in shape when you are often working eleven hours a day? And sometimes more. It's not healthy at all.
After working so hard for years, what happened? Kicked to the curb. I advise people now that loyalty to a corporation is foolish.
Physical strength is correlated with longevity. Just like VO2 Max is correlated to longevity. I've made good progress over the last year, but I can do better. Progress is slower that I had hoped, but I'm not 25 anymore.
I can't agonize over what I should have done differently in my life. I can't change the past. When I think back, I realize there were reasons why things happened the way they did.
Keep exercising! You will get stronger. Check out millenial_husband_fitness on Instagram. He has some good work out tips.

DeleteSome guys start their workouts before the day gets going. Not sure how anyone manages to workout regardless if you do it at the start or end of a work day. As for being a "corporate slave" most folks fall into that, how else does the majority of society earn a living? I totally agree with what your saying. Loyalty to an employer should have perks like better bonuses - more PTO and larger raises. I have experienced more PTO and better bonuses. As humans we should learn from our mistakes and try our best not to repeat them. Some people get that and others spend their whole lives just making mistake after mistake. Kudos to you for working out - sounds like your doing everything right!
ReplyDeleteYou make a good point -- most of the population are corporate slaves. My point of loyalty is look out for number one. Don't be so loyal that you sacrifice your own interests.
DeleteDon't be fooled by these fitness influencers curling 20 pounds in front of the camera. Social media is very deceptive. Some of it do it just for the sake of content creation.
ReplyDeleteI've learned that muscle hypertrophy happened when you stimulate it by using correct tension on the muscle. I used to 80kg on incline bench press, but I realized I wasn't even gaining significant of muscle when I lifted that heavy, at least for me. I dropped my ego and weight to 40 kg, focusing on correct form and muscular tension on my chest. I sticked to this principle for 2 months now, I see decent progress on my upper chest growth.
You can check out Mike'O Hearn on youtube or instagram. A lot of people hating on him, but can't deny the fact that he looks extremely good at 60 himself.
80 kg on bench press is a lot! So you do more reps with a lower weight? With better form?
DeleteI am not one to enjoy going to the gym to do strength training, and I know I should do that. But I do a lot of cardio (for someone of my age) and I think that helps. Sometimes it is hard to find the time to work out when the career is going full throttle.
ReplyDeleteCardio definitely helps your VO2 Max!
