Scouting Mission

I am going on a scouting mission soon of places where I might want to move.  This time North Carolina.   I'm only interested in the big city, so I'm going to check out Raleigh and Charlotte.  I understand that the economy in NC is strong, and certainly the weather is better than the mid-west.

I am concerned about how gay friendly the state is.  I hear bad things about the deep South -- Mississippi and Alabama.  I don't want to move to a place like that.

So it will be a good mini-vacation to check out these cities...the sites, the vibe, the neighborhoods where I might want to live.

  1. Good luck, RB. I suspect that the larger cities in the Piedmont (e.g., Charlotte and Research Triangle Park) are probably pretty LGBT friendly, whereas those on the Coastal Plain and in the mountains may be less so.

    1. No time to it Asheville this trip. What's the story with Asheville? The Saugatuck of the South?

  3. Charlotte is a good place. It's growing fast. It's getting more gay friendly here. I have not been involved, but I know there are a lot of gay groups/activities here. Jim just joined a Kick Ball group, and he told me he's been having a lot of fun. I have a friend who's involved in a Runner group. I think he knows a lot of gay people. If you decided to visit Charlotte, let me know. I don't have much free time, but, at least, I could invite you to dinner. Jim might have more time. Let him know, too.

    1. Thanks. I appreciate your hospitality offer. I will spend more of my time in Raleigh. This will be a quick trip, only four days. I will let you know.

    2. I don't know much about Raleigh, but I have found Charlotte to be pretty gay friendly. Of course Charlotte, Raleigh, and Asheville are not the same as the rest of the state.

  4. While NC may be more progressive than other states, it is still in the south. I live in Nashville and am moving out west (Nevada) to get away from the bible belt.

  6. I don't know if moving to a different city will make you any happier. You should just make the best of it. I just visited your city and there are plenty of good looking guys - asian too. I received a bunch of messages on grindr but I couldn't make the schedule work. Oh well. Most were too young and in their 20's so i basically ignored their messages. New meat syndrome, right? Also got a cash offer to sleep with someone. Is that normal around there?

  7. A cash offer to sleep with someone? Wow, you must be super hot.

Is it normal? I don't think so. No one has offered me cash to sleep with them.

I think I know who you are :)
